Missouri Woodland Mentor Series

The Missouri Extension offered a 9-part Woodland Mentor series of webinars from January to September 2026. I managed to see all 9 of them as they were recorded! The webinar schedule was:

  • January - Introduction

  • February – How we value Missouri woods

  • March – Why we cut trees to manage trees

  • April – Birds need managed woods

  • May – Forest species of concern

  • June – Enhancing the woods for desired wildlife

  • July – Threats to the woods

  • August – Know your woods

  • September - Where do we go from here?

There was at least one other in in the class that is like me – a master naturalist in a suburb that does not own a woodland and I hope to start an interaction with them and share ideas. I’ve already decided that my primary path forward is to transition my yard into a savanna…and encourage other people in my neighborhood to move in that direction. I’ve been posting about the suburban savanna idea monthly and my winter project will be to pull together a presentation for any audience I can find that might be interested!
